Brian Doerksen - Holy God Concert

Pam, Allen, Sharon, Nil and I met up with Mark and Emile at Eglise Nouvelle Vie, in South Shore- Longueil, to see Brian Doerksen live in concert.

It was an evening of concert of Praise & Worship to our Lord God Almighty.

Also met some people from Westview Church as well as the Snowdon Baptist Church.


The Eglise Nouvelle Vie house band opened up the Praise & Worship concert. Here's Brian and his band preparing to sing their first song.

This pastor is a champ!

David Bird, Pastor of the Regina First Nations Alliance Church, and his team won the First Nations equivalent of the Briar on the weekend.

David and his team are the excited and proud winners of the National Aboriginal Curling Championship 2007.

Hoisting the trophy, David and his team of Winifred Bird, Gerald Bird and Bill Desnomie went undefeated, taking on aboriginal teams from across Canada. “In the Aboriginal world this is like winning the Briar,” David says, “we get our names on the cup and everything!”

So, he says, “Regina First Nations Alliance Church is now the home of the 2007 National Aboriginal Curling Championship. I’ll probably put that on a sign somewhere.”

Prayer: If God Answers Prayer

So I said: "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts." --Isaiah 6:5

Why does God answer prayer? Let's not imagine that it's because somebody was good. We Protestants think we don't believe in saints, but we do. We canonize them: we have Saint George Mueller, Saint C.H. Spurgeon, Saint D.L. Moody and Saint A.B. Simpson. We get the idea that God answered prayer for them because they were really good. They would deny that fervently if they were here.

Nobody ever got anything from God on the grounds that he deserved it. Having fallen, man deserves only punishment and death. So if God answers prayer it's because God is good. From His goodness, His lovingkindness, His good-natured benevolence, God does it! That's the source of everything. The Attributes of God, pp. 46-47

"Thank You, God, that You are indeed good, You are faithful, You are gracious, You are full of lovingkindness and benevolence. Thank You that You do in fact answer prayer! Amen."

In her down-to-earth book More Than Sparrows, Mary Welch tells of her discussion about worry with a group of teenagers. Although they were Christians, they were as worried as unbelievers about the common things of life. As she lovingly listened to them, an unusual idea came to her for a game they could play. It went like this:

Instead of saying, “I’m worried,” stop and say, “The Lord is my Shepherd.” Then add, “So I’m worried to death!” The students laughed at the absurdity of the idea, but they all promised to play this new “peace-of-mind” game.

Later, Mary received a phone call from a young woman who had been paralyzed by worry over an exam she had been dreading to take. She said, “I must tell you how the game helped me trust God today. As I froze with worry, I remembered to say, ‘The Lord is my Shepherd . . . so I’m afraid I’ll fail!’ Suddenly I felt the strangest peace of mind. I laughed at myself, then I took the exam—and I passed!”

Saying “The Lord is my Shepherd, and I am worried to death” is more than a mind game to point out the absurdity of worry. God can use this contradiction to bring us to a fuller trust in Him. —Joanie Yoder

Worry is the interest you pay on borrowed trouble.

Visited Rose at St. Mary's Hospital

According to a reliable source ( Rose Powell herself :)) ), Rose's day surgery was done late in the afternoon and so her doctor suggested that she stay overnight (but my thought was that: Rose may try out the gourmet cooking at the hospital). :-)

I paid Rose a visit at St. Mary's around 7:30pm and I was pleasantly surprised to see Rose up and about, no pain whatsoever. Only a couple of signs pointed to the fact that she had undergone some kind of medical procedure or treatment: the I.V. stand and tubing attached to her wrist and the hospital gown she was wearing. Other than that, you'd think she was there visiting a patient in the hospital.

She was sharing a room with another patient and so Rose, with her I.V. stand in tow, and I, took a short walk to the visitor's lounge for a chat.

Lord willing, we may even see Rose tomorrow night (Wednesday) at the Bible study and Prayer Mtg.
